Tight Knot Design Build LLC specializes in deck design and construction. We also do hardwood flooring, remodels, renovations, additions, and work with a lead abatement division. In addition, Tight Knot offers professional design and construction drawing services for homes.
Our company owner is a trained architect, which has prompted many people to use Tight Knot to help plan and re-purpose their homes or spaces without having to hire or pay large fees for multiple professionals. Those interested in design build and addition services have found that for projects in the $10,000-$100,000 range, hiring an architect or designer in addition to a contractor gets extremely costly for the value of what they get. With Tight Knot, the design and construction process is streamlined into one, and it substantially reduces overhead and expensive planning. The goal is to bring great value to your living experience on a reasonable budget. Part of Tight Knot's philosophy is that the architect should not be divorced from project costs, and project construction, and should prioritize the carpentry throughout design thinking.
In addition, Tight Knot has carved a niche doing deck design and construction, and offers smaller construction projects, including flooring, finish carpentry, paint jobs, and other small remodels. Although the smaller jobs are less design heavy, the company's design and carpentry background bring meticulousness and precision to these simpler projects. Tight Knot takes pride in the more basic jobs as well, and offers competitive pricing for quality finish.
TKDB operates in the state of New Hampshire, and has general liability insurance along with a surety bond.
THE PEOPLE
OWNER: ADAM LANS
"I'm originally from New Rochelle, New York, and received my Bachelors of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and moved to Seattle Washington immediately after schooling to learn about the booming building industry. I worked in construction for years in Washington after graduating, alternative to pursuing traditional architecture in an office. This helped me integrate trade skills with knowledge of design and architecture. I then started Slag Design Build LLC with partner Daniel Gehr in Washington State, and successfully serviced Seattle and surrounding areas 2014-2017. As Slag started to grow and reach success, both Daniel and myself decided that we would rather grow our business in a place where we have roots. I have already moved back to the east coast, and started Tight Knot Design Build LLC in 2017. I intend to bring a culmination of Design and trade expertise to my community, and to build long lasting relationships with the people here. I'm currently located in Nashua New Hampshire, and service the surrounding area."
LEAD CARPENTER:
JOHN LOCHRAN
John is an artist, originally from Allentown PA. He has extensive building experience, ranging from working as a fabricator for an architectural welding shop. He previously was a site lead for a company in New York City which does large scale structural work consisting of mainly foundation repair. There, John was responsible for managing teams of carpenters, from 6-20 people. John has great attention to detail, and is extremely thorough with everything he does. John has been developing several inventions in his spare time, several of which will be tested in the near future to ease construction methodology
LEAD CARPENTER:
MATT TAYLOR
Matt has been building his entire life. He is originally from upstate Pennsylvania, and previously was a site lead for a company in New York City which does large scale structural work consisting of mainly foundation repair. There, Matt was responsible for managing teams of carpenters, from 6-20 people. Matt is versed in doing structural work at great speed and efficiency, and understands engineering to a greater degree than fellow carpenters in the field. He is able to consult the company internally, and with clients about practical concerns about loads and fabrication processes. Matt is constantly thinking about construction, and is a major asset to Tight Knot. He doesn't like being photographed, so I found something that best represented his vibe.
ENTRY CARPENTER: BEN SILVER
Ben is originally from New Rochelle NY. Ben has been in the financial industry, and is in transition to go back to school to study psychology. In the mean time, he is providing his support to Tight Knot before he goes back to school. He claims to have learned Shou sogi ban wood burning practices from the great Dr. Tao in Japan. Luckily we have him to educate us with his findings.
SEASONAL SITE LEAD: DANIEL GEHR
Daniel is a Brooklyn native who feels at home anywhere with materials to create. He has a Bachelors of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University where he worked in the shop, the fabrication lab, and the Urban Design Build Studio - working with community members, reclaimed materials, the building department, and various issues of practice within Design Build. Daniel is interested in tactility, and how ergonomic design can shape the way we experience our environment. Daniel moved out to Seattle to work with Adam where together they built Slag Design Build LLC. After traveling the western US as a freelance carpenter thereafter, Daniel has decided to work seasonally with Tight Knot Design Build as a site lead, enabling him to pursue his architecture licensure part time, and travel the US for unique job opportunities which involve artistic construction projects.
PARTNER: PATRICK BINDER
Patrick is the co-founder of Community Builders Construction. He has nearly a decade of experience managing multiple crews and project simultaneously, ranging from small repairs to maintenance programs covering hundreds of units. His main expertise is in roofing, but has experience in every phase of the construction process.
In addition to Patrick's construction expertise, he is involved in Althea Mesh Networking, which is a new solution to offer better internet connection and privacy. He intends to combine his construction feild expertise with this knowledge.
Patrick is an active site lead, and back end partner with Tight Knot Design Build LLC
PARTNER: MARI FONTAINE
Mari is a co-founder of Community Builders Construction, and former nine year vice president in the roofing business. Mari is a certified Lead abatement contractor, and has over ten years of management experience in the construction industry. Mari has developed a passion for finding creative solutions to multi discipline challenges. She has managed various construction projects for multi-unit properties, directly working with Property Managers and residents alike. She has also participated in various safety initiatives to improve work quality and conducted frequent employee trainings in Spanish and English. In 2015 she was nominated Committee Member of the Year for her role on the CAI-OC Outreach Committee, focused on promoting volunteer events for professionals. Currently, she serves on the board of We Heart West, a local non profit focused on improving the Manchester community.
Mari believes that a company should operate with integrity towards its clients, employees, and community.
With Tight Knot Design Build, Mari plays multiple roles, which include business development, customer sales and relations, and field support.
